Title:               Water Resistance: Hydrostatic Pressure Test
This hydrostatic pressure test method measures the resistance of a fabric to the penetration of water under hydrostatic pressure.  It is applicable to all types of fabrics, including those treated with a water resistant of water repellent finish.  Water resistance depends on the repellency of the fibers and yarns, as well as the fabric construction.  The results obtained by this method may not be the same as the results obtained by the AATCC methods for resistance to rain or water spray.
One surface of the test specimen is subjected to a hydrostatic pressure, increasing at a constant rate, until three points of leakage appear on its other surface.  IPS utilzes hydrostatic testers supplied from Advance Testing Instruments Corp. to conduct this test, where the pressure is applied from below the sample.
Each sample code being submitted for testing should be take diagonally across the width of the fabric to be representative of the material.  A minimum of 3 fabric specimens are taken from each code and are cut squares at least 200 x 200 mm.  Care must be taken with the specimens to avoid excessive handling, folding or aontamination of the area to be tested.  The person taking the sample should mark the surface to be exposed to water with an "X" in the corner.  Different resoults may be obtained on the face and the back.  Identify that surface on a corner on each specimen.
